Ammonites were marine cephalopod mollusks that lived from Devonian period to the end of the Cretaceous period. Fossil dating back millions of years. These predatory, squid-like mollusks with spiral shell that lived in Earth's oceans from 240 to 65 million years ago. Minerals replaced the organic overtime. This process preserves the original structure of the fossil.
